International Clinical Trials Day (ICTD) celebrates the ongoing contributions of Clinical Trials and Investigations to medical science, highlighting their role in advancing healthcare and improving patient outcomes.

Clinical Trials and Investigations are a cornerstone of healthcare advancement and each May we celebrate the start of the first modern Clinical Trial by James Lind which ultimately identified a cure for scurvy.

Designed to bring together key national stakeholders from key regulatory and ethics agencies, government and the HSE, national clinical trial organisations and networks, pharma companies, MedTech and medical device innovators, CROs, clinical trial researchers, and other stakeholders, this event will showcase advancement in clinical research and trials in Ireland.

Keynote Speaker

We are pleased to have confirmed Lord James O’Shaughnessy as our keynote speaker .

A former Health minister, Lord O’Shaughnessy chaired a review of the UK clinical trial sector, authored the influential 2023 report on Commercial Clinical Trials in the UK, and brings a wealth of insight on the key ingredients of a high performance national clinical trial ecosystem.

Lord O’Shaughnessy has operated at the highest levels of government, including as a Minister at the Department for Health & Social Care, as Director of the No.10 Policy Unit, and as an advisor to DHSC Ministers during the COVID-19 crisis. As Minister his responsibilities included implementing the Life Science Industrial Strategy, delivering a new pricing scheme with the pharmaceutical industry, chairing the National Genomics Board, and driving the digital transformation of the NHS.

Objectives

Building on the success of previous events, Our conference aims to foster learning, networking and collaboration within the clinical trial sector in Ireland. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

Where?

Due to high volume ticket demand in previous years, we have had to move this years event to a the larger venue – the impressive O’Reilly Hall, UCD;  

We are aware that many attendees will be taking public transport so please use the map provided (below) to plan your trip accordingly. Paid parking at UCD is available but may be limited, given the expected number of attendees.
